1.2 Safe to install
The Emily Center at Phoenix Children’s Hospital has developed the "Our Journey with Liver Transplant" app as a resource to assist families preparing to care for their children post-liver transplant. This application serves not only as a tool for families navigating the complexities of hospitalization but also offers valuable guidance applicable during clinic or emergency room visits.
Parents often find themselves inundated with medical jargon and fast-paced hospital environments, which can lead to confusion regarding care instructions. Healthcare providers may believe they have clearly communicated vital information but may not confirm understanding effectively. The ability to articulate information in one’s own words can help parents ensure they have grasped essential details.
The "Our Journey with Liver Transplant" app is structured to achieve several key objectives:
- Facilitate ongoing dialogue between families and healthcare teams from admission through hospitalization.
- Equip parents with critical knowledge necessary for a smooth transition home.
- Create a safe space for parents to express uncertainties and ask pertinent questions.
- Guide families on the information and skills they need to convey to healthcare providers, allowing for verification and clarification.
- Enhance parental confidence in providing safe at-home care post-discharge, including recognizing warning signs and appropriate responses.
About The Emily Center at Phoenix Children’s Hospital: Founded in 1990, the Center honors Emily Anderson, who battled a rare leukemia for four years before passing away just before her seventh birthday. Her parents established The Emily Center in response to their frustrations with the lack of accessible and understandable medical information during their daughter’s illness. The Center aims to provide accurate pediatric health information free of charge to families throughout Arizona. For more details, visit http://www.emilycenter.org or follow on Twitter @emilycenter.
The development of the "Our Journey with Liver Transplant" mobile app was made possible through a grant from Cox.
